Haiti Cheri Harvest
Life Ministries is divided into four distinct Program Units, or areas
of concentration, each with a supervisor in Dolval and a corresponding
supervisor in the United States. While the source of funds comes
primarily from the United States, the ideas and direction come from
the community in Haiti. Programs are not dictated to the community in
Haiti, rather the staff in the United States serves to equip, enable,
and encourage local community leaders. In this way, the community has
ownership and active participation in every project taking place,
working toward self-sufficiency in each area. Collectively, we submit
ourselves to the will of Jesus Christ and endeavor to do His bidding.
An overview of each of the program units follows.

MINISTRY
PROGRAM UNIT
The
Ministry Program Unit seeks to provide training and
encouragement to local church pastors and lay leaders. Pastors
and guest speakers visit the community on a periodic basis to
provide encouragement and training. Training materials in the
local language will be identified, reproduced, and
distributed. This foundational effort seeks to instill a
passion in the community to look beyond its immediate borders
and to see a nation ripe for spiritual harvest, while moving
out as evangelists and teachers to spread the seeds of the
Gospel wherever they go.

MEDICAL
PROGRAM UNIT
The Medical
Program Unit is establishing a permanent clinic in the
community to provide basic medical care, and we plan to
ultimately establish a full scale hospital. The closest hospital
is located in Cap-Haitien, a minimum of 3 hours away.
Currently, a medical team from the United States provides
clinics twice per year. It is our intent to increase the
clinics to four times per year and to provide a permanent
medical dispensary. Working in conjunction with the Education
Program Unit, community workers will be trained in basic first
aid and fundamental health practices. Using satellite
technology, a permanent Internet link providing audio and
video communication will be established so that physicians in
the United States can provide remote consultation between
visits.

DEVELOPMENT
PROGRAM UNIT
The
Development Program Unit focuses on the areas of physical
construction and economic development projects. The immediate
project under way is a 5000 square foot Primary
School building.
Work is well under way even as the fundraising effort continues.
Phase I of the building is nearing completion. The class
photos show
the students who are anticipating the new facility. This
building will serve multiple purposes in the community and
will be a focal point of delivery of services. Since we
started, we have drilled four wells in the community to
improve access to clean water. Other projects
for the future include agricultural development, an irrigation
project, and other economic development efforts.

EDUCATION
PROGRAM UNIT
The Haitian
government is not equipped to provide broad-based education to
children. Most children attend private or Catholic schools.
Dolval Baptist Church provides such a private school, soon to
meet in its newly constructed building. The Education Program
Unit assists the community by supplementing teacher salaries,
providing teaching materials, and offering guidance over
curriculum. Adult education programs are under development to
provide literacy, spiritual, medical, and health training. As
such, the Education Program Unit works hand in hand with the
Ministry Program Unit and the Medical Program Unit.
