Pòtapòt is an institution to give small loans to micro entrepreneurs who could not otherwise receive funding. The door of the bank is firmly shut in the face of poor rural residents because it will not loan to people who have no assets. Our mission is to revive the dignity of the people, helping them to become functioning, contributing members of the society.
Training and coaching is a key element of the Pòtapòt program. Supervisors oversee the projects that are funded, ensuring compatibility of the businesses within the community. Each potential business owner attends a seminar where business principles are taught. The potential business owner submits a
simple business plan to the program administrator. Once funded, ongoing coaching and training is provided. When loans are repaid, the capital is recycled back into the program to start other businesses. Experience from similar programs operating in other third-world countries shows that repayment rates are better than what is typical in developed countries .
