Some of Haiti Cheri’s mission could be described as charity. We have programs to meet the immediate, urgent needs of the people, but that is not all we are doing. In fact, our main focus is to work in ways that give long term solutions, enabling people to provide for themselves.
Pòtapòt is a program that is critical to helping people come to stand on their own two feet. It is not charity. Rather, it is a comprehensive program to provide small loans to people to establish their own businesses, and to provide ongoing training and coaching to assist them with the management of their new businesses. Just a few hundred dollars could be the seed that will give a family self-sufficiency and dignity.
